The network places an emphasis on professional development and providing support for organisations across the country to better understand, protect, and provide access to the nations sporting heritage. With a primary emphasis on supporting museums, the network encourages and actively promotes partnerships with organisations across a wide variety of sectors including heritage, education, health, sport and tourism.

Our previous activity has included mapping the nations sporting collections; delivering the Our Sporting Life exhibition programme between 2011 and 2013 with over one million participants to over one hundred venues nationwide; a scoping study of the opportunities and threats to sporting heritage n the UK; and, most recently, a successful bid to Arts Council England to deliver a three programme to provide sustainability to the network through creating regional networks, regular events and advocacy opportunities, resources, a mentoring programme, and a membership programme. Our members are always at the heart of our activity and we conduct regular evaluation and discussion with them to find out what’s needed to ensure collections are preserved and access is made available.
